Can you glue down 3/4 solid pine?
Yes, if you use a polymer-based adhesive such as Bostiks. Bostik’s Ultra Set “Single-Step2” is a high-performance adhesive with built in moisture control and a sound reduction membrane. Using Bostik’s helps maintain the long-term durability of your floor. Based on its polymer technology, allowing for movement just like nails. Bostiks contains one percent recycled rubber and is a certified Zero VOC product along with the Greenguard stamp. Bostiks is the only adhesive SYP Direct recommends for gluing down solid wood.

What is the best finish for wood floors?
Choosing the right or best floor for your dog is more about the finish than the species. A floor with a UV cured aluminum oxide offers good protection but can be difficult to touch up. In fact, repairing scratches on UV flooring could require buffing to fix scratches. More extensive damages might even require a tear out to repair. On the other hand, a finished floor using an oil-based polyurethane may scratch more easily but it is much easier to hide or repair.

How long does acclimation take?
How long does acclimating a wood floor take? Acclimation is not about time but moisture content. For example, Southern Pine boards should acclimate to 10% and White Oak, 6%. The first thing we must understand about acclimating a wood floor; wood is hygroscopic. In layman terms, it will absorb (expand) moisture when exposed to high humidity and will expel (shrink) it in low humidity environments. So, if we do not have the boards at the same moisture content this process will not be done with a consistency and could result in separation. This is true for both finished and unfinished floors.

What is Knotty Pine?
Rustic Southern Pine (Knotty) floors are not created equal, not even close. We produce Heart Pine flooring from Longleaf Pine timber, not building materials from farmed Loblolly pine. Our #2 Knotty Southern Pine floors can be compared to Character grade Heart Pine, with up to 50% heart content. What this means is our #2 knotty pine simply lacks the heart content to be deemed Bayou Rustic Heart Pine which requires a minimum of 50% visible heartwood.

What is difference between Yellow and White Pine?
First of all, Southern Yellow Pine is not a species, but rather a description. Within this region grow ‘hard' pines (yellow) and soft pines (white); color is an attempt to distinguish the Yellow or “hard pines” from the Eastern White Pine or Red Pine. Inside of the Southern Yellow Pine geographic range are four major species: Shortleaf, Longleaf, Loblolly, and Slash, with another 8-9 sub species bringing the total to a baker’s dozen. And no, not all pine is created equal, not even close.

What is Heart Pine?
New Heart Pine is not new at all, not compared to dimensional lumber or farmed pine. While it is true the longleaf pines of old were allowed to grow hundreds of years and develop dense hearts, trees grown today do still develop some heartwood. A pine tree’s heartwood is highly valued and preferred by many woodworkers and builders, because it is strong, hard, and has a beautiful reddish-gold color. Heartpine is a grade given to flooring with more than 50% visible heart content on the face over every board.

What is square foot price?
When callers ask us for the price per square foot of any grade, we respond with two questions. Where are you and how many square feet do you require for the project? One customer may pay $3.00 delivered when the next person pays $3.50 even though they both paid the same for the flooring. What is the cause? With smaller orders shipping is a higher percentage of the entire order, make sense? If we ship 200 square feet to Indianapolis, it may cost $300.00, while 1000 square feet only cost $395.00.

What does select grade really mean?
One issue customer face when buying floors online, assessing quality and grades. Homeowners buying floors online see a grade or term, such “Select” Knotty Pine and assume it means ‘the best’. No, not all. Select, by definition indicates ‘hand selected’ during the sorting process. Only problem, it is all ‘hand sorted’ unless you are keeping defects in the grade. Machines do not sort boards for things such as Heart Content, holes, cracks all of which matter, to say the least. Best advice when buying floors online, read the specifications online and ask questions.Description goes here

We have over 200 builders in our contact/client email list- that is 11 years worth and represents about 50% of our business. Repeat business and referrals from homeowners drive our growth today, without them we could not stay in business. We spend zero money on ads and, the author of this post, also an owner. So you can see our floors in AZ, ask Prescott Construction, or how about Montana Log and Timber, Virginia Beach Ford has gorgeous wall? How does pine handle.....?
No that is not a typo. Fill in the blank with moisture, heat, cold, changes in heat and cold, kids, dogs; just life in general. Moisture is a good one, we should begin here. Pine is more porous on a microscopic level, it handles water in and water out better than most wood, we build docks out it. What about kids and dogs, will it scratch? All floors will scratch, but how easy will they fix? Character hides dents and dings, but the truth lies with the finish.
