A #2 grade is a defected board at lumber mills; but a gorgeous floor with color and character at our Pine flooring mill. If that makes no sense to you, do not be alarmed. The marketing term "Knotty Pine" has morphed into a catch all sales pitch that has nothing consistent except inconsistency. Our company does not sell 2 x 4's nor does our #2 Knotty Pine will have 0-40% heartwood on the face of each board, hardly defective and will resemble what most of you see sold as #1 Heart Pine in box stores or lumber yards.
Southern Yellow #2 Knotty Pine is a very misunderstood description based on a subjective grade. Pine dimensional lumber or building materials represents 95% of the overall Southern Yellow Pine produced in our country. Some of the 95% sell their seconds, or #2 grade in rough 1" boards to mill-works shops, who produce floors and walls. The species used is the fast growing Loblolly species, it is planted and harvested in plantations. SYP Direct uses Longleaf Pine, which helped build this country until the enormous stands were almost decimated. Today Longleaf Southern Yellow Pine is harvested from private land owners in small batches from which we create our Knotty & Heart Pine flooring.
Our Knotty Pine is priced based the width and on volume with the range of $1.59-$1.95 for our unfinished Southern Yellow Knotty Pine, for special offers visit our Google Business site. Our standard widths are 3 1/8, 5 1/4, 6 7/8 and 8 7/8 and come in your choice of lengths 8-14'. The long boards & gorgeous color variance (sap bleed) create a floor that immediately becomes the centerpiece of any home.
