What are Knotty Pine Prices?
In most cases, companies will sell a "#2 knotty" pine that has knots as well as holes and other defects. Our flooring is not culled into our #2 grade based on knots or defects, it is simply a function of its place in the tree.
Boards that have more than 50% heart wood will be Heart Pine. Boards without 50% heart wood make up our #1 with anything under that, on the face -so visible and shown in this YouTube video from 2018, our #2 Knotty Southern Yellow Pine. Our #2 grade is not defected or sub standard, on the contrary it simply doesn't have enough heartwood, but has enough create an amazing looking floor and is what we consider to be the best value in flooring, bar none.
The #2 grade from the dimensional lumber mill is called knotty pine because it has no real grade, the seller may say it does but it doesn't. In fact, many times it is culled from 20 or 30 different 'runs' meaning their stuff does not fit together and is simply labeled cull.
