Lumber Liquidators Engineered and Laminate "Hardwood" Floors Continue to Fill up our Landfills. The phrase "Laminate Hardwood Flooring" makes as much sense as "Aluminum Foil Armor.
Lumber Liquidators is going out of business. It is just a matter of time before they have burned everyone that would buy into their misinformation. Liquidation, by definition, is about selling off assets to fulfill a debt. The name lumber liquidators is absolutely not accurate, not even close. The engineered, vinyl and laminate they sell is not being liquidated- they have their own brand! Lumber Liquidators sells engineered and laminate floor covers as if they were hardwoods, and that is the real problem. How could a liquidation store provide a warranty? It does not work that way!
Lumber Liquidators is the absolute worst place to buy flooring
Lumber Liquidators is a publicly traded company. That one fact tells you that their only loyalty is to the shareholders, not the homeowner. The company relies on repeat customers that purchase their single use floor covers, such as laminate and Vinyl. Google search Lumber Liquidators, skip the first page which they buy, and you will find a litany of lawsuits and testimonials all telling you the same thing, they sell garbage.
Warranties, what are they good for?
Absolutely Nothing! The warranties on engineered, laminate and vinyl covers, given by Lumber Liquidators, are worthless. If you examine their financial statements you find that their expense for warranties is non existent. Have you ever seen the tenants of these documents? The pre-installation check list has 10-15 steps, not including the on going "up-keep" of your floors. Flooring Warranties are absolutely worthless, from day one- and FYI, nothing is waterproof.
Lumber Liquidators is not a true chain, they put their sign up anywhere. For the year end 2018 they had 401 stores in 47 states, with over a billion dollars in sales. Oddly enough, they do not have one store that is A+ rated by BBB. In fact, we could not find a store that was even a member of their local BBB. Southern Yellow Pine Direct is an A+ rated member of the BBB. One of the main reasons for our rating and reviews is that we do not sell engineered, laminate or vinyl flooring. We sell floors that outlive your house, they are actually floors and not covers. SYP Direct has delivered to all 50 states, with HI coming on board in 2018. We have a network of professionals that specialize in real wood, not ripping you off. We urge you to trust logic and do not buy into the propaganda- ONE HOUSE, ONE FLOOR!
AuthorJason Howard is the co-founder of Southern Yellow Pine Direct which operates under the "One House, One Floor" philosophy. New Jersey, New Hampshire, South Carolina and New Orleans pick up options with discounts for doing so; heart pine, knotty pine, imports and hardwoods.
Southern Yellow Pine Direct is more than just what the name implies. We specialize in pine, however in the course of our business we have developed relationships with the top hardwood mills, and manufactures allowing us to broker these products directly to homeowners using a cost plus (wholesale brokerage) pricing.

The best advice we can give to keep it simple. Buy the floors below and a clear coat is all you need, anything else would be a crime. So If you are a DIY and want to know the best way to finish unfinished flooring, we have some advice.
"Put some lipstick on that pig" is a truly southern phrase we use to explain how the prefinished pine flooring market works. If you see a dark stain, assume a lower grade. You will see dark stained "heart pine" in box stores and online, but be forewarned it is not heart pine, not the way we measure it. If you are buying heart pine you are want to see the floor, right? They are putting lipstick on a pig!
The prime grade Caribbean Heart Pine needs no lipstick just a clear coat of your choice, Tung or Teak Oil either pure or tinted.

AuthorSYP Direct is the homeowners advocate and the contractors secret. To find out about distribution partnerships contact us now, we are looking for like minded professionals. #buyrealwood Green is one house, one floor; green is not a cover ever 5 -7 years.
With floor covers such as engineered and laminate you are really just leasing the floors, and like a car lease you will pay more on the backside than you ever expected! These floor covers are filling our landfills now and in the next 4-5 years the amount is expected to double from current levels of 300,000,000 lb. per year! All so they can generate repeat business. There is no greener product than solid wood flooring.
What if every home built from this day forward used 1” solid real wood from a local mill or trusted source? Do you believe that to be more harmful (aka less green) than our current model, which is built on shipping timber to China so they can cut it up, compress it and sell it back to us in slivers. Green would be one house, one floor! Exported lumber would stay gone and not come back as Rimports (Re-imported) flooring. Why are hardwood floors so expensive?Engineered floors are just covers, we sell floorsYes, you were right when you said “this does not make sense” as you were shopping for floors at box stores. The whole idea is that fake is better than real. Engineered wood handles moisture better? No-way not from mother nature or your washing machine. Real wood is too expensive! Wow- over what time period, since ours last forever and the other maybe 5 years. Over the life of house that gets stupid expensive compared to us. And if you order from SYP Direct, we will beat any apples to apples price- please check us on that! Warranty is a marketing term not a real promise Lifetime warranty, really? Come on man, that just doesn’t seem reality based. Have you ever seen the terminology or terms of these documents? Absolutely worthless in the real world. Our warranty is that one day your floors will be the last thing of value left of the structure they are going into-and in most cases they will be salvaged and sold again. “Its been a long time since I installed a real hardwood”; a long-time installer in SC on phone call recently. Problem is we are not shocked any longer because we hear things far worse all the time. The one's that admit is are great, the ones that try to talk you out it are at issue. Time is Money! Time is money and real wood takes time, a great deal more time. Acclimation, sand, stain and repeat takes longer than peeling of the back of a sticker. The advice our client was getting locally ranged from tearing out the entire bathroom full of hardwoods, or just replacing a few boards. We think that should be the last resort, however as opposed to single use floor covers such as engineered flooring, solid hardwood floors can handle water just fine. What waste factor to use when ordering a solid hardwood floorA waste factor is essentially the amount of waste wood that you will have to pay for but cannot, for one reason or another, use in your project. Determining the waste factor is the first step towards a good installation. Nothing ruins a good install like coming up 2 boards short! A waste factor is normally expressed as a percentage (%) of the required amount. The waste factor will change based on grade and to some extent species. When measuring square footage, the simplest method to Floor plan to measure use is squares and rectangles. Measure from baseboard to baseboard. Or if there is no base in place, the drywall. In the example below, we have a few irregular areas in the living and dining room. Measure from each longest point in both directions, do not try to be too precise and always round up. ![]() A waste factor is essentially the amount of waste wood that you will have to pay for but cannot, for one reason or another, use in your project. For example, a 12’ long 7” wide board has over 7 square feet coverage, so if you have to cut, which you will on some of them – you loose more square footage than if the width was 3 1/8. The waste factor of unfinished real wood is higher than engineered or prefinished floors where all the defects are usually removed before their individual process begin. This is one reason most prefinished floors are so short and when combined with the fact they normally (box stores) buy the cheapest grade- their original waste factor is very high. And rest assured you are paying for it in; price, quality, grades, width, length, character and short life cycle (s) of these self proclaimed floor covers. We sell floors- not covers. In 2016 we were voted premier flooring provider in Charleston based on Houzz reviews. Both founders of our company grew up in Louisiana and the similarities are really easy to find between the styles of the two states and cities. Charleston is the oldest city in South Carolina and New Orleans is certainly the oldest in Louisiana! Its historical charm dates back to 1670, the year it was founded. This quaint city offers attractions as old as America itself. The city was at the forefront of the Revolutionary War and the Civil War. While it is a historical city for the United States, Charleston offers more than a history of military presence it overs a look back in time.
